Real-time SQL monitoring, without your database passwords ever leaving your building.

SQLMON watches PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQL Server databases from inside your own network and alerts your team on state changes, backed by a credential boundary that keeps your passwords off the cloud entirely.

Overview

What SQLMON is

SQLMON is a cloud-hosted, real-time SQL database monitoring platform that watches a company's databases from inside their own network, without ever holding their database passwords. A small collector agent runs inside the customer's network, polls PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server databases locally, and streams health readings up to the cloud over an outbound-only connection.

Operators get a live dashboard, threshold-based alerting (in-app and WhatsApp), read-only query tools, service control, and, for SQL Server, scheduled and on-demand backup and restore. The defining characteristic is a hard security boundary: the cloud never dials into a customer's network and never stores database credentials.

How It Works

Three components, one system

Each part is developed and deployed independently, and works together as one product.

Collector Agent

Inside customer network

Polls PostgreSQL, MySQL, or SQL Server locally and connects outbound only. Credentials never leave the agent.

Cloud API

Identity + evaluation

Stores identity and configuration only, never credentials. Grades metrics and manages alerts.

Dashboard

Web application

Live status, connections, backups, and the superadmin Platform Console, updated in real time.

The cloud pushes alerts out over WhatsApp and the in-app notification feed whenever a threshold or state change warrants it.

Business Problem

The problems SQLMON solves

  • Only finding out a database is down when a user complains
  • Standing up and maintaining your own monitoring stack is expensive
  • Cloud monitoring tools wanting database credentials or a VPN into your network
  • Databases across several servers with no single pane of glass
  • Alert fatigue from the same problem paging the team repeatedly
  • Needing a diagnostic query without handing out production credentials
  • Restarting a stuck SQL service meaning someone RDPs in at 2 a.m.
  • Manual, error-prone nightly SQL Server backup and copy processes
  • Migrating off an old on-premises tool being painful and risky

Capabilities

What it does

  • Real-time health monitoring: CPU, memory, connections, blocking, size, long-running queries, transaction-log space, reachability
  • Fleet visibility grouped by server, with status counts, search, and filters
  • Threshold-based alerting graded OK / Warning / Critical, cloud-side and instant to edit
  • Interactive operations: read-only queries, service start/stop/restart, connection tests, fully audited
  • SQL Server backup and restore between registered servers, always restoring to a new name
  • Multi-tenancy with organisations, roles, and per-tenant database quotas
  • Outbound-only collector agent with a hard credential boundary
  • One-click migration off legacy on-premises monitoring tools
  • Always-On Availability Group secondary detection with failover alerts

Detailed Capabilities

SQLMON feature by feature

What each capability does, and why it matters.

Real-Time Monitoring & Metrics

Live per-database metrics pushed to the browser with no page reloads.

The agent polls each database and reports raw metrics; the cloud grades them. Collected metrics include CPU and memory usage, active connections and sessions, blocked processes, database size, longest-running query duration, transaction-log space, and reachability.

Current state and early warning, not a stale historical chart.

Status Model & Fleet Visibility

A single, strictly prioritised status model grouped by server with fleet-wide counts.

Every status in the UI is derived by one function in strict priority order: paused, offline, secondary, error, awaiting, then OK, warning, or critical. The dashboard groups databases by server and offers search and status filters.

A newly added database appears immediately as awaiting agent rather than silently missing.

Thresholds & Grading

Cascading thresholds, defaults, global, server, database, graded instantly in the cloud.

Each organisation has a threshold configuration that cascades from defaults through global, server, and database-level overrides. Because grading happens cloud-side, editing thresholds takes effect instantly, no agent restart required.

Tune alert sensitivity per database without touching the collector.

Alerting: Two Channels, Two Audiences

In-app notifications for every logged-in user, WhatsApp for a curated recipient list.

Alerts fire on state changes, including recovery and agent-offline, and are flap-damped so a flapping database doesn't spam recipients. Being on the WhatsApp recipient list is a separate opt-in from having a dashboard login, so a field technician can get WhatsApp alerts without holding an account.

The right people are notified the right way, without alert floods.

Interactive Operations

Read-only queries, service control, and connection tests, run as a credential-free round-trip.

Read-only ad-hoc queries are permission-gated, enforced read-only on both sides, capped at 500 rows, and fully audited. Service control is bounded to start, stop, or restart of the specifically configured service. The cloud never holds credentials during any of it.

Safe remote operations without handing out production database credentials.

Backup & Restore (SQL Server)

Scheduled or on-demand backups, always restoring to a new database name.

Backup and backup-restore jobs run on a schedule or on demand, orchestrated by the agent with plain T-SQL. Restore is always to a new database name (there is no overwrite path), and full run history doubles as an audit trail.

A safer, automated replacement for manual, error-prone nightly backup processes.

Multi-Tenancy, Roles & Administration

Organisations, role-based access, and a superadmin Platform Console.

Every record is scoped to an organisation. Roles range from viewer through operator and admin to a provisioning-only superadmin. A per-organisation database quota provides a natural usage lever, with amber and red indicators as it's approached.

One hardened platform serving many customers with strict isolation between them.

Maintenance & Pause

Pause a database or server for planned work without generating alert noise.

Databases or servers can be paused indefinitely or until a set time, with a reason recorded. Paused databases carry their last-known metrics forward and never raise alerts while paused.

Planned maintenance doesn't page anyone.

SQL Server Availability Groups

Automatic detection of Always-On secondaries, with failover and sync-health alerts.

Always-On Availability Group secondaries are detected automatically and shown as a distinct status. The agent re-probes replica role every poll, so a failover is reflected quickly on the dashboard.

Availability Group topology is understood automatically, no manual configuration.

FAQ

SQLMON frequently asked questions

No. Database credentials live only on the customer's own collector agent, encrypted locally. The cloud's database record is identity-only: name, type, and server, never a password.
